About the Brand
Minimalist skincare is an Indian brand that is completely based on chemical skincare formulas. The brand faced some severe backlash from beauty bloggers and the audience because of their idea to copy the formula and packaging of the brand “The Ordinary” but we will be giving an honest opinion keeping this controversy beside. This review is based on the results we saw after 2 weeks of continuous application of the Tranexamic 3% + HPA serum. Although, the brand is quite transparent with the ingredient source and list, which is a very good thing.

About the Ingredients
As we all know, aqua means water and because the first ingredient is aqua, it clearly tells that the serum is water-based. It means that the serum is lightweight and can be used by oily and acne-prone skin as well. It will not clog the pores and can get absorbed quickly.
2. Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract
Avena sativa (Oat) kernel extract is good to reduce itchiness and redness from the face. It is suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin. Moreover, this is good for calming irritated and inflammed skin.
3. Tranexamic Acid
Tranexamic acid works on pigmented and scarred skin very well. It is known to reduce the appearance of dark spots, acne scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is one of the most proven and used ingredient for the treatment of melasma.
4. Dimethyl Isosorbide
Dimethyl Isosorbide is a solvent that is used to stabilize active ingredients. It is used in this serum to stabilize vitamin c so that the product can work efficiently on the skin. However, talking about Dimethyl Isosorbide or DMI, it is derived from corn sugar and is 100% safe to use.
5. Mandelic Acid
Mandelic acid is very mild as it does not penetrate deeply but it helps in calming acne skin. It is also good for treating hyperpigmentation, dark spots and fungal acne. So, overall there are no side effects of mandelic acid.
6. Pentylene Glycol
Pentylene glycol is usually used in night creams and day creams because of its ability to bind water and providing intense hydration to the skin. It is also used specifically for aged skin to provide enough moisture to the skin.
Methylpropanediol is an glycol which is used in skincare products to increase the product;s ability to get absorbed. It is colourless and odourless which makes it even more suitable and good for all skin types.
8. Acetyl Glucosamine
It is an anti-aging ingredient that is used in skin care products to hydrate the skin deeply. Acetyl glucosamine also helps in skin lightening and brightening. Furthermore, it also promotes the synthesis of Hylauronic acid to boost skin hydration.

Hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid is a better substitute for hydroquinone which helps in fading dark spots, sun spots and pigmentation. It is safe to use on pigmented skin.
10. Sodium Polyglutamate
Sodium polyglutamate is used in skincare products to provide hydration to the skin. This is a skin conditioning ingredient which helps in hydrating the skin deeply and also works on wrinkles and fine lines with regular use.
11. Sodium Hyaluronate
Sodium hyaluronate is hydrophilic which means that it attracts moisture and water from the air and keep the skin hydrated and soft. It helps in preventing water loss keeping the skin plump and healthy. However, studies conclude that sodium hyaluronate works better than hyaluronic acid.
Ethoxydiglycol is a humectant and helps to hydrate the skin. It helps in preventing water loss from the skin making the skin look hydrated and fresh. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel concluded that Ethoxydiglycol is safe to use.
13. Salicylic Acid
Salicylic Acid works amazingly on acne, pimples and dark spots. It helps to peel dead skin cells revealing the new skin layer which is much brighter and glowy.
14. Xanthan Gum
Xanthan Gum is very hydrating for the skin. It does not have any side-effects on the skin and can be used by anyone. It is 100% safe and is used in most cosmetic or skincare products.
Lecithin is a penetration enhancer that ultimately helps in penetrating the product deeper so that we can witness the best results from the product.
Phenoxyethanol is used as an anti-bacterial ingredient in cosmetic products. But, studies suggest that this chemical is not so good for the skin especially if you are breastfeeding. Studies show that this chemical can react badly if gets absorbed by the skin. We would not suggest breastfeeding women use this serum.
17. Sclerotium Gum
Sclerotium Gum acts as a thickening agent and helps in improving the texture of the product. It has a gel-like consistency which helps to hydrate the skin. It also helps to make the skin soft and supple.
Pullulan is a naturally-occurring ingredient that helps in defining the texture of a product. It makes the product thick so that the product can hydrate the skin nicely.
Ethylhexylglycerin is used as a humectant and emollient to stabilize another ingredient. This acts as an anti-bacterial ingredient and helps to save the product from getting spoiled.
20. Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract
The turmeric root extract has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which keep the skin free from germs and bacteria. It is good for acne-prone skin and works well for active acne as well. Also, it is known for its skin brightening and lightening properties.
21. Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate
Trisodium ethylenediamine disuccinate is a naturally-occurring ingredient which helps in increasing the shelf life of a skincare or cosmetic product. It is used to stabilize preservative and antioxidants in a product.
The packaging of Minimalist Tranexamic 3% + HPA serum is quite good. As all other minimalist serums, it also comes in a paper carton box which has all the details about the product. But, because this particular serum is sensitive to sunlight, brand has also added a black coloured box inside the paper one which is amazing. It helps in protecting the serum from sunlight. However, the glass bottle also contains a very good quality glass dropper which makes the usage easier. Overall, the packaging is so good considering the price point. We would love to give it a 9/10 for packaging.
